Dolphins may be more like us than we previously thought, as females could be able to experience sexual pleasure similar to humans, a groundbreaking study has found. The female mammal may even be able to reach orgasm due to its sex organs, which are not too different to its human counterpart. Scientists have found female bottlenose dolphins have large and well-developed clitorises and its tissue structure suggests it may expand in response to stimulation. Previous research has shown how sex plays an important role in dolphin bonding and they have it all year around, even during seasonal periods where they are unable to conceive. The research team studied 11 dolphins that had died naturally and were collected under a permit authorised by the National Marine Fisheries Service in the US. They performed dissections, created 3-D CT scans, fixed the tissues in paraffin wax and stained them to closely examine the clitoral structure. Dolphins were found to have a clitoral hood, where two large areas of erectile tissue merge into a single body, forming a shape and structure very similar to the human clitoris.

Nature is not cruel; it is simply indifferent, and these behaviors show a disregard for other living things, rather than malice. Humans alone are capable of cruelty, and sexual coercion and rape are immoral and criminal acts. Describing nonhuman behavior in these terms trivializes rape. We are often in awe at their intelligence and grace, and the tricks they do for us in captivity and in the wild. And they have nice smiley faces. Dolphin is a loose and informal name for several different groups of cetaceans, including the Delphinidae ocean dolphins and three classes that live in rivers or estuaries Indian, New World, and brackish.

This week, the media went nuts over revelations in a BBC documentary about Lovatt's interactions with a male dolphin during a NASA-funded experiment in the s. It was just easier to incorporate that and let it happen. Then came the headlines. Judging from the collective horrified response, you would think that a human giving a handy to an animal was an aberrant, unthinkable act. But such fondling isn't unheard of in the realm of animal research. There are two major published examples. Burton placed the primates in dog harnesses and cat collars to restrict their movement.
It's a weird, weird world we live in; and this story does nothing to dispel that claim. A woman has had sex with a dolphin. Genuinely, seriously, literally, and all the other adverbs you can think of. So far, so bizarre.
